A native of the Middle Eastern country of Georgia, Alexander Badalov has enjoyed a long and successful career performing and teaching cello. After graduating from a music school in Tbilisi, Georgia, he received his Bachelor’s in Cello Performance from the Tbilisi College of Music. He went on to receive a Master’s in Cello Performance and Chamber Music and his Ph.D. from Tbilisi State Conservatory before attending the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA for his Artist Diploma. He also received Kodaly Method Certification Level I from the New England Conservatory.
Badalov has performed with several orchestras, including the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Georgia and the Tbilisi Chamber Orchestra. He performed as Principal Cellist of the State Symphony of Georgia from 1992-1995 before coming to New England. He has since performed many times with the Cape Cod Symphony, Nashua Symphony, Central Massachusetts Symphony, New Hampshire Symphony and Bangor Symphony Orchestras. He has given master classes with Yo-Yo Ma at the Longy School and Natalia Gutman at the Telavi International Festival in Georgia. In the summer of 2012 he completed a solo tour in France, Ukraine, and his native Georgia. Badalov has been teaching in Massachusetts since 2003, when he began as Cello Instructor at the Walnut Hill Music School in Natick. Currently, he is a cello instructor in the Andover Public Schools, Wachusett Regional High School, Marshfield High School and of course the Dedham School of Music. Here at DSM he not only teaches private cello lessons but also the cello classes in our programs at the Dedham Public Schools and the Joyce Kilmer School in West Roxbury. He is also Conductor for the All-City String Orchestra at Burncoat High School in Worcester. |
