EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Amy Fichera began her tenure with DSM in the summer of 2016. With experience as a voice major, teacher, performer, businesswoman and entrepreneur, she possesses a unique understanding, sensitivity, and admiration of our history. She has interesting ideas to sustain the organization and lead its growth moving forward. With her strong professional background in business development and her experience as a teacher and performer, we look forward to continuing to provide unparalleled music education, access and appreciation for our community.
Amy earned her Bachelor of Music Education (K-12) degree (classical voice) from Gordon College, and her Master of Science in Moderate Disabilities from Simmons College. With nearly a decade of experience teaching both in and beyond the classroom, she has a deep passion for inclusive music education and performance that is accessible to learners of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
With experience running her own successful music business, Amy has proven to have sharp marketing and development skills, as well as the creativity and drive to execute plans and see them through to fruition. She is also an active performer, touring with one of Boston's most seasoned and sought-after show bands.
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT Laura Swartz graduated from Simpson College with a BA in Music Education, then proceeded to pursue her Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, graduating in 2018. She began her teaching career in Des Moines, Iowa metro area, working with students of all age groups in traditional classroom settings as well as within her private teaching studio. Currently, Laura is teaching at the Amy Dancz Studio with previous teaching engagements with the Boston City Singers Kodaly group and the Boston Arts Academy. She started with South Shore Conservatory in 2018.
A soprano by training, Laura Swartz has been performing in operas such as Le nozze di Figaro, La Calisto, and Sour Angelica. Laura has been involved with the Madrigal singing group based in Iowa that traveled through Europe performing chamber pieces. Recently Laura was a part of Boston Conservatory's Conductors Choir, which performed with the Boston Conservatory Orchestra along with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Laura has a strong background in office management and operations, especially in the music field.
