Halloween is near, which means this newsletter has been marked morendo. We've got some updates to scare with you, some spellbinding performances you'll want to carve out some time for, and a fundraising Trivia Night that you'll be dying to get tickets for.

On Thursday, November 17, The DSM will be hosting a fundraising trivia night. Doors open at 6:30, trivia starts at 7:30. Visit https://events.humanitix.com/dsmtrivia to get your tickets right now.  
We’ll be raffling off amazing items like music lessons, gift cards for nail and hair salons, gift cards to amazing local restaurants, and oh so much more!

Also, stay tuned for more fundraising with our Fair Trade Fundraiser coming November 11th. Watch this space.

A DSM Community Member is in need. Sara Santos, who has directed our Community Chorus, is in a family crisis and is in need of assistance. Please join us in coming together to support Sara and her family by contributing to their GoFundMe or the Meal Train.

Our first recital of the year is Friday, Oct 28 at 6:30 at First Chruch (670 High Street, Dedham).

Everyone is welcome to wear their Halloween costumes!

Lessons continue and are going eerily well. Of course, Covid and flu continue as well so in the event that you’re sick or otherwise unable to make a lesson, let the office and your teacher know: info@dedhamschoolofmusic.org  
As a reminder, here’s our missed lesson and make-up policy.
We offer 2 make-up sessions at the end of the term. Each student is allowed one excused absence to be made up during that scheduled make-up time in January. We also have a 2nd week in case a teacher needs to miss a lesson due to illness. We learned during the early days of the pandemic that we can easily pivot to an online lesson; so if you are unable to bring your child to their lesson because you or another member of the family is ill, we are still able to accommodate the scheduled lesson via zoom. The fun of these following workshops, lessons, and jam sessions.

Acting the Song Workshop
Transform your singing through acting. In this workshop, you’ll learn to perform your song and tell its story. Cost of the workshop is $55. Read more and register now.  
Bluegrass Jams
Blue Grass Jam: Jams continue every second Tuesday and fourth Sunday of the month at 7PM. 
Intermediate Jam will be on Sunday October 23, and the next Slow Jam is Tuesday November 8th. Both at the First Church in Dedham.

The Dedham School of Music table will be at the Dedham Community House's Annual Fall Fair. Come by our table for an instrument petting zoo and to purchase some DSM swag.

We’ve got some great performances by DSM friends coming up.

The Kaleidoscope Chamber Ensemble is putting on its first concert of the 2022-23 season on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7:30. It'll take place at the First Church and Parish Meeting House. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here or at the door. 
The Sam Gilman - Brian Thomas band bring their brand of funky organ soul jazz to the Horse Thieves Tavern in Dedham Square on Thursday 10/20! Known throughout the region as some of the premier Soul Jazz musicians, Sam Gilman and Brian Thomas are happy to bring other well-known and world-class musicians Steve Fell (guitar) and Dean Johnston (drums) to fill out the band. It is sure to be a great night of music. Free, all ages, two sets starting at 8:00PM.

We’re excited to announce that Richard Weingartner has joined our faculty, teaching our Acting the Song Workshop.  
Richard Weingartner has produced, directed, and cast over 30  musicals. His work also includes creating over 50 original productions as well as directing numerous scripted works. Richard is a Tony Award teaching nominee, an award-winning playwright, and educator. He is also an avid motorcycle enthusiast.
