February is a big month at DSM. Term 2 (a.k.a. "Spring Term") begins on Tuesday, February 6th, and we just had our wonderful recital this past Sunday. Read more about the going on at the Dedham School of Music. Term 2 ("Spring Term")Term 2 began today, February 6th. Every student should have received confirmation of their lesson day and time for this new term. There have been many changes so if you did not receive confirmation, please be in touch with our administrator, Laurie Bloom via her email at lbloom@dedhamschoolofmusic.org or call our office at 781-441-9372. Term 2 does include a break in February (2/19 through 2/23) when the public schools are closed. If you would like a lesson during this time, let your teacher know. Your teacher may also request to teach you a lesson during this time. Please note: In case of bad weather, we'll move lessons online using Zoom. Spring RegistrationConsider adding a new instrument: Have you ever wanted to play the Ukulele? The Violin? Harmonica? Drums? Marimba? Or what about joining a band or chorale? Ever wanted to jam on the Uke with a Beatles Tune? We have a class for that. If you have an idea for a class, let us know! We are always open to suggestions from our community! Faculty NotesWe welcome 2 new faculty members: Ben Colgan, voice and piano; and Viridiana Hernandez, strings and piano. Ben Colgan - Voice and Piano Ben Colgan is a Musician, Teacher, and Theatre Music Director in the Greater Boston Area., He started piano at 6 years old, and was singing before he could talk. Early in life, Ben took an interest in technology, music, mathematics and became an avid reader. He was a gigging keys player by middle school, always teaching and learning from others along the way. By high school, he was music-directing theatre regularly. 'Known for his upbeat, patient, and supportive personality, Ben encourages students to create and flourish. His students take an interest in personal creative development, music hardware and software. Ben dedicates most of his time to working with students, gigging around the city and playing with his band. Academic and Professional Qualifications: - B.M. Music Education (Boston University) - M.M.T. Music Technology - Performance (Southern Utah University) - MA K-12 Certified Music Educator - Vocal/Instrumental We are glad to welcome Ben Colgan to the faculty of Dedham School of Music! Viridiana Hernandez - Strings and Piano Viridiana Hernandez is as Boston-based violinist who has performed throughout Germany, Mexico, the United States, Chile, Ecuador, and Costa Rica with ensembles and orchestras including the Richmond Symphony Orchestra (Richmond, VA), Eureka Ensemble (Boston, MA), and Tzintzuni Orchestra (Morelia, Mexico). Her role as an educator is to support and empower the unique voices of her students, by creating an environment of kindness, respect, discipline, and love for art. Parallel to violin and viola lessons, she enjoys teaching the fundamentals of piano. With more than 7 years of teaching experience, Viridiana currently teaches violin, viola and piano at Marblehead School of Music, violin and cello at Centre Music. House, and at Dana Hall School of Music, where she also coaches Chamber music ensembles. As a multifaceted musician, she enjoys performing music from around the world and recently participated in the Silkroad Global Musician Workshop 2023, at the New England Conservatory. Viridiana holds a Master's degree from Longy School of Music of Bard College, and undergraduate degree from Conservatorio de las Rosas. She is also a co-founder of AMBAR Ensemble. We are glad to welcome Viridiana Hernandez to the faculty of Dedham School of Music! Jody Pongratz, Executive Director of DSM Join us in congratulating Jody Pongratz, our wonderful Executive Director of Dedham School of Music, as she and a formidable group of local nonprofit leaders recently completed the Community Foundation for Metro West's Executive Director Leadership Training series! These nine executive directors have completed this rigorous experiential learning program, focused on growing their skills and vision for a thriving Metro West, as well as fostering peer connections across the nonprofit sector.
