This Summer, the Dedham School of Music has placed artistically painted pianos in Dedham Square and at Legacy Place, available for the community to play and enjoy from July to October. In addition to welcoming impromptu performances, stirring up memories of lessons past, and inspiring exploration, we hope the pianos will be utilized at events such as Music in the Square and Bar Crawl fundraisers.
By transforming our sidewalks into a place of musical and artistic exchange, the Dedham Piano Project invites the public to engage, explore, and create. Street Pianos are a prime example of placemaking in action. |
Originally inspired by British artist Luke Jerram’s internationally touring Play Me, I’m Yours Street Piano Project, the Dedham Street Pianos provide an interconnected resource for the public to express themselves and interact with one another. The pianos have also enticed hidden musicians to share their creativity and talents, or to provide an outlet for those who do not have access to musical instruments at home.
