Our first Giving Day was a major success. We raised over $5500-of which $3700 was to the Sabia Scholarship in the Harmony Fund! Thank you to all who have donated. Summer is a wonderful time to try lessons with a new instrument or study the same one with a different teacher, to gain new perspectives. On top of our classes, we also have a number of groups, such as Jazz Band and Early Music Chorale. Summer sessions run from July 10 - August 18, with private lessons available throughout the summer, based on faculty availability. Lessons include:
Around Town... Dedham Reads! DSM Faculty and Board have been participating in Dedham Reads!, at the main branch of the Dedham Public Library. We hope you can attend the last performance this month on May 11. Dedham Reads Finale Bash! There was a very fun Dedham Reads! finale held on May 13 at the First Church Parish Hall. Music from Joe Rich, Sonya Rae Taylor, Jonny Pape and DSM's own Sam Gillman filled the walls, and food from "Stuffed by Papi" food truck contributed to the fun. Friday Folk Coffeehouse at First Church If you are looking for some indie-folk music with a touch of blues, Americana and bluegrass, May 19ths Friday Folk Coffee House will be your jam . See Andrew Innes & The Reluctant Ramblers at the First Church and Parish (670 High Street). Tickets are $10 and are available at www.dedhamuu.org/concerts-at-first-church-and-parish-dedh and at the door. Doors open at 7 pm. Bluegrass Jams 2nd Tuesday of the month for Beginners. Fourth Sunday of the month is the Intermediate Jam. Both are at the First Church at 7pm. Just walk in - and its free (donations to DSM gladly accepted!). The jams go on hiatus for the summer, so don't miss out this month or next. Dedham Community Band Come join the band! Rehearsals are Thursdays at 7pm at the First Church. The Early Music Chorale ....is off to a great start! It rehearses on Thursdays at 7:30 on the second floor, Blue Room, at Dedham Community House, led by Michael Gonzalez, Voice Faculty. String Quartet Concerts Aaron Jay Myers, friend of DSM and former Guitar Faculty, and his string quartet put on two great concerts, one on May 13 at 7pm the United Parish Church in Brookline, and the other on May 14 at 3m at the New School of Music in Cambridge. Student Spotlight...We will highlight some of our graduating seniors over the next few News of Notes:Campbell Greeley: Campbell has been taking music lessons from Dedham School of Music since 2013. He started out playing the cello and along the way picked up piano, which he really likes. He is very grateful for the wonderful opportunities he has had being a student at DSM. One of his favorite memories is playing with the Parkway Orchestra. He is graduating from Blue Hills Regional Technical School this June and plans on attending Fitchburg State University in the fall. Campbell will be majoring in Communications Media, with a focus on Film and Video Production.
Esther Yee: At DSM Esther has studied the fiddle (2018-2020), piano (2019-2023) and electric guitar (2020-2023). She'll be studying biology, computer science and music at Gordon College. Faculty Notes... Brooke Merrill, wife of DSM Piano Faculty Adam, is experiencing health problems and is asking for your support.
