Pumpkins are ready to be carved. Orange and purple lights are illuminating houses all over Dedham. That’s right. The reason for Spooky Season, Halloween, is almost here! We’ve scared up some good Dedham School of Music news for you as well as some tracks you can put on your Halloween playlist (and no, it’s not just “Monster Mash.”)
There will be no lessons on Halloween or Veteran’s Day.
For Hallow’s Eve, enjoy your pillowcases of candy and this little number by one of our freaky faculty members.
Our Upcoming Recital...
Our next recital is Sunday, December 10th at 2PM at the First Church in Dedham. Please sign up with your teacher now so you can figure out what song you or your child will play.
Also, did you know that Jerry Goldsmith won an Academy Award for his score for The Omen? Ave Satani’s brass-heavy choral piece will surely creep out those trick-or-treating lil' devils.
Classes and Ensembles...
We still have openings in these groups:
Bluegrass Jams - Our bluegrass jams are drop-ins, with free events every 2nd Monday of the month for beginners and 4th Sunday of the month for those with some experience leading. 7PM at the First Church.
Dedham Community Band, under the direction of Jenn Zevos, rehearsals meet Thursdays at 7PM at First Church.
Early Music Chorale Meets Thursdays at 7:30PM in the Blue Room at DCH. Come join this wonderful group led by voice faculty Michael Gonzalez. Contact us email@example.com to join!
Performance Class - Looking to get some practice in performing in public? Our Performance class meets monthly.
Audition Prep - Planning on auditioning for districts on voice or an instrument, or maybe your high schooler wants the lead in this year's musical? Work with one of our faculty members for 1-4 sessions to prepare!
A little Halloween Interlude...
Okay, no set up for this one! Here’s Pet Semetary by the Ramones.
Friday Folk Coffeehouse at First Church
The First Church continues its folk coffeehouse series on November 17 with what's to be a rousing performance by Chris Baird and Laura Ridarelli. Baird and Ridarelli are a Roots Rock, Folk, and Irish music duo.
Tickets are $15 and doors open at 7:00PM.
Oakdale Square Concert Series
Thank you so much for coming to the Oakdale Square Live Music series. We had a blast and hope you did too!
And speaking of funk, if you're looking to kickstart your costume party try a dose of some monster-themed funk to get people on the dance floor?
Our faculty are always treating us.
Michael Gonzalez, voice faculty, recently performed in Handel’s Samson. He’s catching some rave reviews, both from "The Boston Musical Intelligencer:"
“If a heroic Samson is a no-show in this oratorio, then you have no show. By the time he got to the famous “Total Eclipse”, Michael González had carried all doubts away and won our gratitude for powerful, colorful, subtle artistry. Every word counted. He cast long pellucid lines to the back of the house and the sanctuary echoed its gratitude.”
“Tenor Michael González tugged at the heartstrings”
Our own Linnea Bardarson, piano faculty member, premiered a new work by David Patterson, a 12-minute solo piece called "Cinematic Somnium" as well as a chamber piece. Here's a review:
"There was a certain proportion of movie-theater tremolando, but the biggest factor was minimalistic repetition of bunched triads, especially a close-position A minor punched out repeatedly. Linnea Bardarson, pianist, ominously, with complete strength and precision."
Here’s another creepy one to add to your playlist. This piece by John Carpenter from Halloween might be more haunting than that other one we all know.
Payments for lessons are due in advance. Laurie will bill those on payment plans. If you are interested in arranging a payment plan, please contact Laurie in the office: 781-441-9372 or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
