Summer is finally here! As we wrap up another wonderful year this month, we celebrate the achievements of our graduating seniors. Learn more about them, along with summer lesson info and recent DSM news. Spring Makeups Spring Makeup Period: June 11-28 Please be in touch with your teacher to schedule makeups, if any. Note: DSM is closed on Juneteenth (June 19). Policy Reminder: Faculty will make up any lesson that they missed; and students are entitled to one excused absence made up per term. Summer Registration If you have no makeups or have completed all makeups, then you can begin summer lessons at your earliest convenience, depending on your teacher's schedule. Contact Laurie for summer registration and scheduling. Summer is always a great time to hone our musical craft, whether your children are looking to get a head start on audition preparation for the fall, looking to enjoy some fun music making without stress, or even looking to try out a new instrument! And for the adult learners out there, summer is the perfect time to dust off your skills - did you play in your school orchestra, band or chorus? Get back into it this summer at DSM! Class of 2024 Cheers to our graduating seniors! The DSM community celebrates their success and sends them best wishes for their future endeavors. Susie Plunkett Susie began piano lessons at DSM when she was seven years old. After a few years she transitioned from piano to brass instruments to play trumpet and euphonium in the bands at Oakdale Elementary, Dedham Middle School, and Dedham High School. She also discovered the joy of singing and has taken voice lessons at DSM since 2018. She performed in the Dedham High School musicals all four years and continues to enjoy voice training andn performance. She has committed to the University of Vermont in the fall and intends to major in Environmental Studies. Casey Roberts ![]() sey has been a student at Dedham School of Music since approximately age six. He has played piano since that time, in lessons for many of those years with Linnea Bardarson at DSM. He has also participated in public school band, supported by DSM, playing the trombone. Casey has been taking voice lessons with Katie Jillson at DSM for the past three years and performs with the Newman School a cappella group and school band. Casey has also been a fellow with the Allin Congregational Church Choir. He is attending Wheaton College (Massachusetts) in the fall, where he hopes to continue singing with a new ensemble. He and his family are grateful for the wonderful instruction and support he has received at DSM for so many years. Jared Sedlis Jared has studied with DSM's Adam Merrill for about two years now, since the family moved to Dedham from Texas. Although not yet sure which college he will attend, Jared will continue skating competitively with the United States Figure Skating Team, depending on where he chooses to attend. Student News Shout out to Timothy Gillis, who recently got accepted into the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO) for the 2024-25 season! Timothy is a tuba student of DSM's Tommy Chiu Congratulations to all who performed in our final recitals on June 2 and June 8! Faculty News On Wednesday, June 26 at 6:30pm, the Dedham Community Band gives their final performance at the Endicott Estate Lawn, led by DSM faculty Jenn Allen Zevos. DSM faculty Steve Marchena (guitar/ukulele/mandolin) is playing for Beautiful - The Carole King Musical, opening July 10 at the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA. "Beautiful - The Carole King Musical takes you back to where it alkl began - and takes you on the ride of a lifetime with one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history."
