And speaking of funk, if you're looking to kickstart your costume party try a dose of some monster-themed funk to get people on the dance floor? Faculty Notes... Our faculty are always treating us. Michael Gonzalez, voice faculty, recently performed in Handel’s Samson. He’s catching some rave reviews, both from "The Boston Musical Intelligencer:" “If a heroic Samson is a no-show in this oratorio, then you have no show. By the time he got to the famous “Total Eclipse”, Michael González had carried all doubts away and won our gratitude for powerful, colorful, subtle artistry. Every word counted. He cast long pellucid lines to the back of the house and the sanctuary echoed its gratitude.” And “Tenor Michael González tugged at the heartstrings” Our own Linnea Bardarson, piano faculty member, premiered a new work by David Patterson, a 12-minute solo piece called "Cinematic Somnium" as well as a chamber piece. Here's a review: "There was a certain proportion of movie-theater tremolando, but the biggest factor was minimalistic repetition of bunched triads, especially a close-position A minor punched out repeatedly. Linnea Bardarson, pianist, ominously, with complete strength and precision." And now... Here’s another creepy one to add to your playlist. This piece by John Carpenter from Halloween might be more haunting than that other one we all know. A Reminder... Payments for lessons are due in advance. Laurie will bill those on payment plans.
