Many hands playing pianos in lesson after lesson. Instructors and students huddling together at music stands. Musicians, sitting shoulder to shoulder, playing wind, brass, and percussion instruments. Audiences gathering for live performances.
Not too long ago these scenes depicted DSM’s vibrant community. For the sake of our community’s health, we simply cannot imagine a scenario where we can conduct in-person lessons, rehearsals, and performances at the start of the fall semester. But here’s what we can envision: Instructors and students connect virtually for lessons. A family listens to a musician’s progress from the next room. A dog tries really hard to join a lesson. Our tech-savvy faculty produce recorded and live performances. Together we celebrate the power of music to transcend hardship. We know we will be together in person again. But we know that for now, we must keep our instruction and performances online. We hope you’re as excited as we are about another opportunity to make music together. We’ve added some awesome new classes for all ages and a new Prelude to Piano (mini-lesson) option for our young learners. We're also excited to start a four-week session of community band this week!
